Cincinnati, Ohio Tradition: Comet Bike Night

Cincinnati, Ohio Tradition: Comet Bike Night

By Norm Kern

Writing this column in mid April, I am poised to start the sport touring rally season at the MSTA North Georgia Classic Rally, but since it isn’t until next week, I rode to a bike night last Tuesday. I don’t attend them very often, but it’s always fun to go on the first really nice warm and dry evening of Spring.

This bike night’s home is the Comet- a Northside Cincinnati neighborhood bar and restaurant featuring Mexican food, a variety of drinks and craft brews.

It’s a favorite gathering place for Cincinnati Cafe Racers group members, so it attracts a lot of colorful characters. Cafe Racers stalwart Todd Steinway is the host, and he’s been doing the event every Tuesday evening, year round, for over 18 years.

Todd’s friend George DuChaine regularly takes pictures and posts them on Facebook. Both of them helped me with some of the pictures in the article.

Come hang out, have some food and maybe a live band late.

Early birds begin arriving around 6:00 PM, the main action starts around 7:00 and goes to about 10:30, depending on weather and bands playing. Expect a lineup of all kinds of bikes parked on the street- cruiser, sport, ADV, classics, garage customs, you name it.

It’s finally the first really nice warm and dry evening of Spring, and what better way to enjoy it than by attending the classic bike night? Hosted by Todd Steinway and held at the Comet, a Northside Cincinnati neighborhood bar and restaurant, this bike night has been a favorite gathering place for Cafe Racers members for over 18 years. It’s an evening full of endless possibilities – have some delicious Mexican food, try some craft brews, and perhaps even listen to a live band late into the night. Come hang out and take in the sights of the incredible variety of bikes parked on the street – cruisers, sports, ADV, classics, and garage customs. Early birds start arriving around 6:00 PM, while the main action begins at 7:00 and goes on until 10:30 PM. If you’re ready to start the sport touring rally season off with a bang, then this is the place to be.
