Dress for THE RIDE, not just the SLIDE.
High Quality Riding Gear Makes All The Difference
While many say the opposite, the real truth is that if you don’t find yourself comfortable in your protective gear, you’re not likely going to wear it. It’s also a hard truth that if you think you look like an idiot – you may also not wear the stuff that’s meant to keep you safe. And then, if you do slide… the fancy safety gear isn’t going to do you much good in your closet.
Why we strongly recommend TOBACCO MOTORWEAR. Admittedly, we first ordered some of their gear because we thought it looked really cool. And if we could justify ordering because it was safer – all the better! And then we got it and discovered that not only does the stuff look really cool and is essentially “bullet proof” (made out of genuine Kevlar) – it’s also really comfortable.
I spent most of the past summer riding in one of the Bandito Riding Shirts (see the stripped jacket-looking pieces in the above picture) and a pair of their American Archetype Riding Jeans. I
Now first off, these are expensive items – especially for someone as notoriously “cost-conscious” as myself. HOWEVER, I learned some time ago that spending a little more for something that’s really well made and will last – especially if it’s legitimately safer for you – is money well spent.
And both of these items are VERY well made, and it’s easy to see how they will help protect me in times of need. BOTH of them are made with DUPONT KEVLAR at key points and have space for removable D30 armor. Additionally, they are surprisingly comfortable. Despite having the Kevlar sewn in – the canvas and denim are amazingly flexible and still breathable.
What is D3O® Armor? D3O® is a patented smart material that is soft and flexible at rest but instantly hardens upon impact. Thus making it the best material for impact armor. Its not intrusive when you are riding, but solid on impact to protect your funny bones.
And yes, I think they look cool as well. So, based upon comfort and looks, sure I’m wearing them often. And oh, yeah.. if I go on a slide – they will help protect my skin!
