Gold Star Project of Colorado
Mission of the Gold Star Project of Colorado – “To honor our Fallen Military Heroes and to provide inspiration, support, and encouragement to the parents who raised these young men and women.”
Our Beginning – In 2006, a Gold Star Wife and a Blue Star Mother formed the first chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of Colorado. They went on to create a special weekend/seminar for the parents who had a child die while they were serving in the military. Since the inception, the program had been under the umbrella of the Blue Star Mothers of Colorado. In December of 2017, we partitioned and formed the Gold Star Project of Colorado as a Non-Profit organization to better serve our Colorado Gold Star Parents.
Background of the Gold Star Parents Weekend – The Gold Star Parents weekend will be held to coincide with the National Gold Star Mother’s weekend. This weekend is set aside for those parents who have lost a child while serving in the military at the time of their death, either in combat, from illness, accident, or by suicide. This weekend/seminar allows these parents a special time to connect and be with other Gold Star Parents. Sharing their grief and their hopes and the stories of their children. Learning to they are not alone in this journey of recovery.
Our Vision of the Gold Star Parents Weekend – To assist parents recover after receiving the knock on the door, with the words no parent should never hear, “We regret to inform you”… Our weekend includes workshops, counselling opportunities, seminars, along with other helpful resources. All the while providing a safe environment for the Gold Star Parents. Finally, we provide this weekend free of charge for the Gold Star parents, as we believe our Gold Star parents have already paid so much though the loss of their child.
