Things can get boring during winter so the Garage Brewed Motorcycle Show, held annually at the beginning of February at the Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati, Ohio, is the perfect way to spend a cold Saturday. Photo Credit Bill DeVore Cincinnati Cafe’ Racers.
The show is organized by a dedicated crew from Cincinnati Cafe Racers (CCR), a Facebook group based in the Greater Cincinnati area which includes Southern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and South Eastern Indiana.
They are fans of many different styles of motorcycles, with an emphasis on vintage and classic bikes, both stock and customized. Their membership is diverse, and they ride many different types of motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, and more – just about anything with two wheels.
There were about sixty bikes in the show, entered in the Classic, Race, Pro Custom, and Garage Custom classes. The Garage Customs have always been my favorites, as the use of junk, mismatched parts, etc. demonstrates creativity and a sense of humor. Here are some of my favorites.
Garage Custom H-D Shovelhead by Derek Hubbard, Buffalo, NY- a blended influence of early board track racers and Harley custom culture of Japan.
Garage Custom 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado aka “EldoRatO,” built by Jeff Parrish of Indianapolis, IN, after sitting in a field for about 20 years.
Classic 1939 Indian 4 Cylinder, perfectly restored by Rocky Corsmeier, Cincinnati, OH
Classic 1957 BSA Goldstar by Brian Keen, Cincinnati, OH
Bike was bought in 2020 as boxes of parts. Sheet metal is all original. Bike is in clubman trim and is very fun to ride.
Classic 1941 H-D Knuckle Head with 1940 Sidecar by Doug Stacey, Bellbrook, OH
Garage Custom 2002 H-D Soft Tail Deuce with Texas Sidecar by Calvin Hamilton, Knox, IN. Lots of beautiful paint and fun stuff on this one!
Race Class 2004 Suzuki RMZ450 by Andrew Butler, Cincinnati, OH. Fully custom built dirt track bike.
Classic 1920 Douglas W20 2-3/4hp by Tim O’Connor, Batavia, OH, is fully functional and regularly ridden in the original configuration.
