Reaching ALL Veterans in Need.

Reaching ALL Veterans in Need.

Chaplain Otto Ministries has established the first ever American Legion Post inside an Ohio Prison.

In 2024, John “Otto” Guthmann established a ministry focused on a segment of the Veterans community that many had forgotten or written off – those incarcerated within our prison system.

Chaplain Otto believes that even behind bars, Vets deserve healing, dignity, and hope.  He has acted upon this by developing a program involving classes and workshops, the development of anger management videos, and more than 100 in-person trips to prisons to work with those in need.  And in a little over a year, the results have already been dramatic.

Using clinical assessments, participants are tested and the program impact is assessed by both Otto and the correctional system.  The results are significant both on paper and in terms of the daily lives of those effected:

Over 75% dropped at least one anger category and displayed significant score improvements.

Among those clinically tested, over 80% showed cognitive, behavioral, and emotional improvements.

That’s the technical way to express that the program is making a difference.  And while nobody is excusing any crimes done, we believe that our Veterans stood the line for us and faced potentially life threatening and horrific situations for us.  We should be just as dedicated to standing for them when things go wrong and not give up on them.

Pastor Otto started this ministry on his own, self-funded, and is just now getting the support of sponsors and various fund raisers.  In May, the 2nd Annual Chaplain Otto’s Prison Run was held as the LARGEST MILITARY SUPPORT RIDE in Ohio for 2025, with 100% of the proceeds going to support the outreach programs.

Reasons To Ride is committed to supporting Chaplain Otto, his rides, and his program – and we ask that you join us in this effort.  You can make a direct donation to the link here or by scanning the QR Code.  You can also text unclesam to 50155 to make a donation. .
