Sport Touring Corner-Salvaging the End of the Season
Sport Touring Corner- Salvaging the End of the Season
By Norm Kern

At the beginning of September I broke the fibula in my left leg while loading my bike on a trailer for a rally trip to Missouri. Fortunately it’s not a load bearing bone- I was able to get a removable boot and move around without crutches, but was unable to ride for over 6 weeks. (Of course there was LOTS of good riding weather and three rallies during that time.)
Got back on the bike and started riding again in mid October. Was slowed down for a few days by snow on November 10, but still got managed fourteen days and over 2000 miles of riding by Thanksgiving. The high point was a four day trip to Tennessee where I rode with Bruce Schweikert, Tim Mullins, Pat Mogavero and Lou Laguna. Chad Barker, the MSTA Georgia state director, came up from Georgia and joined the fun on Saturday. Both riding days were led by Knoxville local MSTA member Donna Blake on her Triumph 900 Tiger. She is an excellent rider who knows all the fun roads.

Will be trailering back to Tennessee and Georgia this winter to get some riding breaks from Ohio winter weather which is expected to be more harsh than usual.

Motorcycle Sport Touring Association Club News:
MSTA is gearing up for a promotion and recruiting drive for 2026. We are very excited about new volunteers who are coming on board and expanding the club in new areas. Some examples:
Max Durling, who has been an MSTA member for over 15 years, has become the new Michigan state director. He will be very active in the new year and plans to host rides, gatherings and monthly chapter meetings, which have always been popular in Michigan.
Matt Guss, from Washington state, was thinking about club membership and wanted to know about other members there. We only had a few at the time, but Matt joined, became state director and has started organizing activities and recruiting.
Recently I was contacted by Matthew Cohen, a freelance event promoter in Canada who loves sport touring. He wanted to join the club and start an Eastern Canada chapter, so we have a new area director and an MSTA Facebook page for Eastern Canada!

Hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving with family!
